English translation of selected urdu poetry by Mayaar Malihabadi.

That blissful & blessed came to me round
wo shaadmaan jab mere pehlu ma aa gaye
How many hidden sentiments they revived?
naa jaane. kitne. jazbaye-pinhaN. jagaa gaye
On which ground we say that we forgot you right
We only know how we have evaded your sight.
ye hum hi. jaante. hen .jo .nazreN .chura .gaye
.Past wounds once again carried back the pain
maazi ke zakhm .phir .naya .nauha suna gaye
That flaunting beauty hits the heart yet again

wo naaze-husn jab mere. seene .me .aa gaye
Particles of the earth lost in the songs of love
zarre zamiN ke naghmaye-ulfat me gum huye
Those weaknesses override our soul & nerve

wo zaofe-ishq .jab. meri. hasti .pe chhaa gaye
.Bits, the beloved glanced with the glee of joy
dekha thaa us ne farte-muhabbat se jis ghadi
The moments that made us a man of savvy

wo lamheN-bad qimaash ko insaaN bana gaye
.In assembly they discuss the virtue of our foe
wo .wasf. us. raqeeb .ka .karte .hen. bazm .me

But only, on my name they somehow refute

ik .mere. zikre-naam. pe .wo.... mukraa ...gaye
.Worthy & worthless of home became mirror
ghar ke khaso-khashsk bhi almaas misl huye
Charm of paradise descends, then gaze deter.

wo husne-khuld jab jhuki nazreN .uthaa .gaye
Heart that grinned over the grief & groan of world
duniya ke aaho-gham pe jo hanstaa tha dil kabhi
They made that heart the tide of sorrow’s hoard.

us dil ko bahre-gham ka wo toofaN banaa gaye
If it is not injustice then what is more to specify?
yhe. zulm ...gar.. .nahi ...to. ise .aur ....kiya. kahuN
He too demanded from me a report of my enemy
wo mujh se hi us raqeeb ka naamaa magaa gaye
“Mayaar” he desist from the glimpses of Laila.
mayaar.. un. ko ..jalwaye--laila.. se ..he .....gurez
Only he made me the Majnoo of desolate desert.
.
.
mayaar

Selected poetry of Sahir Ludhyanwi: Chalo Ek baar phir sey ajnabi ban jaye hum dono.

                                        Beautiful turn.
Let us once again we become strange each other.
We neither expect from you the emotional support.
Nor you look at me with erotic eyes & wanton taste.
Nor my heart beats reflect interrupting in my chat.
Nor the mystery of your perplexity reveal with your sight.
The dilemmas that prevent you too, go for love ahead
People tell me too, these glimpses are unneeded
I too had the stories of humiliation years of old.
You too had in memory the past overshadow cloud.
If Acquaintance starts ailing then it is better to forget.
Tale, that is not possible to bring true to its results.
It is better to relinquish, giving it beautiful outlook.
Let us once again we become strange each other.

English translation of Sahir Ludhyanwi nazm: Paunch kar ashq apni Ankhon sey.

English translation of :Sahir Ludhyanwi Nazm
Wipe out the tears from the eyes
Smile then it helps something
Nothing will change bowing head
Raising head then it helps something
Life does not pick up in alms
It is grabbed in an attempt
Your right from the stony world
could you capture then it helps
Colour & caste, breed & creed
Whatever be, it is petty than human
Could you perceive this truth like me?
It helps something if you accept
We in the world of hatred
Have to build up township of love
It is not precious to be far away
Come nearer then it would be helpful.

Waiting.

                                Waiting

Moon is dull, sky is calm
World is serene in the lap of dream

White cloud in the far vale
Bends to love the mountain
Having hopeless desires
We wait for you in anticipation

Come on in the shadow of spring
Yet the spirit of love remains youth or not?
Life which is dependent on your fascination
Whether it remains kind till tomorrow or not?

Like every day tonight the stars too
May not sink in the dust of dawn
Come on, burning eyes in your segregation
At least one night, let it lie down

Moon is dull, sky is calm
World is serene in the lap of dream

Sometimes.

                                                              Sometimes

Sometimes a thought addresses to my heart.

That Life under the soft shadow of your tresses
If passed then it could have been vitality
This darkness that is our life’s fortune & fate
It could have lost in the beam of your scrutiny

Not strange that being unaware of this world
I could have immersed in your charming beauties
Your soft body with half opened intoxicating eyes
I keep engrossed in the saga of these beautiful stories

When the bitterness of the world convene me
I would get the sweetness from your responses
Life wanders wailing uncovered, unprotected & I
Find the shelter under the shadow of your thick tresses.

But this could not be possible & now the condition is
Neither you, nor your worries, not your craving too
Life is proceeding with such a pace & way as if
Nothing is required for the support as for yearning too

Mountains of sorrows I have embraced.
I am passing with such strange pathways
That Scaring shadows are surrounding me
Like the daunting shrubbery of life & deaths.

Neither way, nor destination nor any ray of hope.
My life is wandering in the voids & vacuum.
Ever keep lost sometime I will be in these space
I know, my companion but for the sake of claim.

Sometimes a thought addresses to my heart.

English translation of Sahir Ludhyanvi famous Nazm "TAJ MEHAL"

                            TAJ MEHAL
For you Taj may be symbol of love’s manifestation
You may have crazy faith for this vale of attraction

O beloved meet me somewhere else from this station

No reason for being the poor in royal congregation.
Testimony of magnificent aristocracy in the way
Whereupon lovelorn spirit travel is of no justification.

O my beloved, in the backdrop of bulletin of love
You must have at least seen the elegant vestiges?
Fondling with the tombs of expired emperors
You must have at least seen your hopeless houses.

Countless people have loved in this world.
Who says that they were not true to their stand?                                                                                                                                                 But they were without the means of message.
Because those people like ourselves were in need.

These superstructures, monuments & forts
Glorifying pillars of sovereign’s rulers.
On the face of the world that architecture
wherein our ancestor’s blood combine together.

My beloved, those were also having deep love.
Who imparted the beauty to this tomb of marble?
No traces of the graves of those dearest ones.
So far no one has come to light over a candle.

This orchard, palace & bank of Jamuna’s river
This carved, painted walls domes & arches.
One emperor on the basis of state exchequer
He mocked at the sincere love of poor peoples.
